Founded in 1997 by artistic director, Tiffany Payton, Dance South's Company strives to offer exceptional
performance opportunities for both the student member and the community. The Company is a civic, not for
profit youth dance ensemble dedicated to providing superior training and performance opportunities for
young dancers, as well as to promoting dance as an art form and to fostering the fine arts in our community.
The group represent Dance South as ambassadors for the cultural and performing arts in our community.
The Company has presented an annual Christmas Performance each year since it's inception. They have
served as guest entertainment for the Fox 17 Kids Club opening and JC Penney Fashion events. Also, the
company has been invited to perform for Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, Sumner County Symphony,
American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Awareness Benefits, Lions Club, and many local nursing homes.
Seeing the need to further promote the arts in our schools, Encore Dance Project visits local elementary and
middle schools at Christmas and/or National Dance Week for performances and lectures.
In keeping with the company's goal to expose it's dancers to every aspect of dance training and performance,
the company members participate in many local and national talent searches. Petite, junior, and senior
companies have all been honored with first and second place standings. In 2006 the Company placed 1st,
2nd, and 3rd overall at the Fire and Ice Competition and Applause Talent Competition. They were also
awarded the "Most Entertaining" Award for the piece "Too Darn Hot," and top Studio at Applause Talent
Competition.
Upcoming events for the Company include a Winter Concert benefiting the Tissue and Organ Donation
Society. We look forward to many more years of successful performances, continuing education for young
aspiring dancers, and proudly serving as ambassadors of dance in our community.
Company members are selected through auditions or invitation only. Anyone wishing to join the Company
should call the artistic director at 672-2787 to set up an audition time or may submit an audition video.
